Rock Creek scores with mighty mainstream menu
Rock Creek is a welcome addition to the dining scene in deepest, darkest East Regina, enlivening the Quance Street strip of restaurants. The restaurant, in the style of an Earl’s or a Cathedral Village Free House, was an instant hit when it opened a little over little over a year ago and remains popular.
And no wonder. The food is good, the prices not too steep, and Rock Creek fills a wide niche the other restaurants in the area, with their specialized menus (think Med Bistro, Angkor, Smokin’ Okies, Mongolie Grill), don’t: middle-of-the-road steakhouse-and-variety style. REGINA - The bottom line: Rock Creek Tap and Grill delivers the yams with the burgers. And an attractive range of other menu items: you get spice and you get international. Appys are fun. Desserts includes more than cheesecake (Thank you, Chef!). Portions meet and defeat a hunger. I’ve nothing to complain about except maybe a full stomach.
Now for the details.
Rock Creek is a bar and grill, so the appetizers are crucial. There is a good selection of appys including the usual chicken and dry ribs, as well as fun finger food like stuffed jalapenos and Salmon spring rolls. My partner and I shared the Spiced Cayenne Kalamari which was not overdone although a touch greasy and certainly not spicy. Perhaps adding the cayenne to the garlic-lemon aioli sauce would make for a hot taste sensation. They also have several soups. A thick and rich Clam Chowder, and a Spicy Thai Craw-Noodle Soup that burns to your fingertips. To my mind a good restaurant always makes their own soup. These appeared to be made with a soup base and then kicked up with added ingredients. The clam chowder was a bit thick and goopy while the Craw-Noodle version was spicy but lacked depth of flavour and contained but a few very tiny pieces of crawfish........ Read More
